Apps can help you find places on campus: iCampus PUC

The iCampus app, is developed by the Integrated Risk Management Center (CGIR) in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Center for the Environment (NIMA) and Synapse - Innovation Program Genesis Institute. The app, designed exclusively for PUC community, provides campus navigation, like a GPS, in addition to gives information about services offered in buildings, such as restaurants and banks. Still in beta and 2D version, the teacher responsible for CGIR, Fernando Coutinho, says the idea is to get feedback from users in this first version and then launch version 2.0 next year, as the suggested improvements and in 3D.

The software update also promises to include the identification of stores with labels and photos. The goal is that not only students, but anyone entering PUC can download the app on your smartphone and get information to facilitate their movement across campus.

The project manager of CGIR, Alexandre Rangel, said in an interview for PUC Urgent newspaper, that the app will go beyond the internal GPS function of the university. "The idea is to think a more interactive and participatory campus. Thinking about it, we will develop the relationship between the university and the students, faculty, staff, which could also contribute to the organization of the campus. "

Beaches aren’t a destination in Rio de Janeiro; they’re a way of life.

Home to some of the most famous stretches of coastline in the world, Rio’s beach culture is not something to be taken lightly.

With that being said, there are some key factors that you need to understand before crossing over the iconic walkway of Copacabana or Ipanema.

Thanks to the advice of local friends and learning from my own mistakes, I’ve developed a few quintessential rules to Brazilian beach etiquette that will help you blend in like a Carioca (Rio Native) on your next trip to “the marvelous city.”

What's up, guys?! If you ever thought that PUC-Rio was only about studying, Vila, BG, Pires, xerox and restaurants, you couldn't be more wrong. Besides all of those evident things our great university has to offer, the parties are its really strong point. We are going to keep you informed about the greatest parties and "choppadas" from PUC and related to it.

Zona Sul do Samba:

The event is going to take place at Maracanã, an awesome tourist point and a must see place for the tourists that are here in Brazil for the first time. The music is going to be mainly samba, but there are going to be DJs for all tastes during the breaks. For a reasonable price, it's worth being late for class on Friday. If besides all the fun part, you also came here to study, there are a lot of places in PUC that are great for reading, solving exercises or even meeting for group works.
You probably already know the libraries: the one in Frings is on the third floor and it is the biggest one. There's always room for everybody and you can borrow almost any book. The library in Leme is on the 7th floor and, even though it is smaller, it has also a good space.
In both of them you can find individual and group studies rooms.
There are also quiet places that aren't even known by Brazilian students from PUC. One of them is almost hidden (and therefor really quiet): the rooms in Pastoral (the big church in the middle of the university). Another great option is studying in IAG (the administration building), that has constantly empty rooms, allowing the students to come inside e even using the board.
You can also find there tables and chairs with plenty of space!

Se além de se divertir, você também veio para estudar, existem vários lugares na PUC que são ótimos para ler, fazer exercícios e mesmo combinar trabalhos em grupo.
Vocês provavelmente já conhecem as bibliotecas da PUC: a do frings fica no 3o andar e é a maior. Sempre tem lugar e você consegue encontrar quase qualquer livro para pegar emprestado com a sua matrícula. A biblioteca do Leme fica no 7o andar, e, apesar de ser menor, também tem um bom espaço de estudo. Em ambas há espaço de estudo individual e em grupo.
Alguns lugares muito tranqüilos não são mesmo conhecidos por alunos brasileiros da PUC. Um que é bem escondido (e, por isso, bem silencioso) são as salas no subsolo da Pastoral (é a igreja grande que fica no meio da puc). Outro lugar que representa uma boa opção é o IAG (o prédio de administração) fica constantemente com salas vazias, permitindo que alunos possam entrar e mesmo usar os quadros. Lá você também pode encontrar umas mesinhas e cadeiras com bastante espaço!

Xerox

Free print:

PUC students have some free prints in some places in the university, like Rio Datacentro (RDC), LabGrad and in eletric engineering labs.
Every student can print until 100 pages per semester using RDC's computers but you can buy more prints if you want. You just have to go to RDC's customer service and ask for a bill (It costs R$ 10,00 for more 100 prints).

Just students of computing engeneering, computing science or some subject in the eletric engeneering department can use their computers and print until 50 pages for free in the lab or in the room L442.

Temik:

Temik is the best choice (in black an white or in colors) for who wants something quick and good. In Temik, you can also bind papers, buy blank CD and DVDs or put credit on you cellphone. As you wait, you can ask for some free candies and they’ll give to you. The B/W xerox price is 15 cents per page and the color xerox costs R$ 1,50 (per page).
A good tip is to buy 100 sheets of paper in Carga Nobre and bind them in Temik. It costs less then R$ 10,00 and then you have a great and cheap notebook (100 sheets of paper – R$ 5; bind them – R$ 4). Its great for those who doesn´t want lined on your notebook or for draw something.
Some teachers (most of them religion or philosophy ones) let some texts to help the students with what's going on in class. You should copythem to study.
Temik is in front of D.A.R. (Departamento de admissão e registro)

Cópias Digitais:

Is great cuse you can use the computers and send your own files to print, pay and take. You can also print banners (it costs like R110,00) for some presentation or just xerox B/W for 15 cents and Color for R$1,50, and bind papers too. Cópias Digitais sometimes is really crowded so, if you need help to do something, better look for another place.
Its near D.A.R., in “Pilotis”.

APG:

In APG you can print via internet and xerox (the price is the same of Temik and Cópias Digitais). The service is quick and practical.
APG is in the “village” in PUC, and to get there you just have to go to Kennedy building, go down near Bandeijão and look for house “V”.

Copiadora de Engenharia:

The price of print and xeroxs are the same of the anothers. Some teachers (most engeneering ones) let some folders with texts about what was discussed in class to their students take copies. To get there you just have to go to Kennedy building, go down near Bandeijão and look for house “II”.

Cortesias de impressão

Os alunos da PUC têm uma cota de cortesia de impressão de folhas em alguns lugares da PUC como o Rio Datacentro (RDC), LabGrad e nos laboratórios de Engenharia Elétrica.

Todos os alunos da PUC podem imprimir até 100 folhas por semestre no RDC utilizando os computadores do RDC. Se o aluno quiser comprar mais “impressões”, ele pode. Basta ir ao atendimento no térreo do RDC e pedir ao atendente um boleto. Custa R$10,00 um pacote com mais 100 folhas para imprimir.

Apenas alunos de Engenharia da Computação, Ciência da Computação ou alunos que estão cursando alguma disciplina de programação têm direito ao acesso do LabGrad e podem imprimir até 50 folhas de cortesia.

Alunos do curso de Engenharia Elétrica ou que cursam alguma disciplina do departamento de Engenharia Elétrica têm acesso aos computadores desse departamento e também podem imprimir até 50 folhas de cortesia diretamente nos respectivos laboratórios e na sala L442.

Temik

Para quem gosta de atendimento rápido e com qualidade, o Temik é uma boa opção para quem quer tirar uma fotocópia (Xerox) seja Preto e Branco ou Colorido. No Temik, também é possível encadernar, comprar CDs/DVDs virgens, recarregar celular pré-pago e enquanto o seu pedido não fica pronto, os atendentes disponibilizam "balinhas" grátis para seus clientes. O preço da xerox P/B é 15 centavos por folha e da Colorida é R$1,50 por folha. Uma prática que vem se tornando usual entre os alunos é comprar um bloco de 100 folhas A4 na Carga Nobre e encadernar essas folhas no Temik. O preço total sai por menos de 10 reais, ou seja, você adquire um "caderno" com folhas em branco por menos de 10 reais. (encadernar 100 folhas custa 4 reais e o bloco com 100 folhas aproximadamente 5 reais). É ideal para quem desenha ou faz engenharia e acha que linhas de um caderno atrapalham. No Temik, vários professores (a maioria desses professores é professor de religião, filosofia, letras etc) também deixam pastas com materiais que podem ser xerocados.

O Temik encontra-se em frente do Departamento de Admissão e Registro ( D.A.R.).

Cópias Digitais

Uma vantagem desse local é poder acessar computadores e enviar o arquivo diretamente para impressão, pagar e levar. Também é possível imprimir Banners para trabalhos/apresentações etc (aproximadamente R$110,00 um Banner). O preço da Xérox é 15 centavos e colorido (impressão a laser) é R$1,50. Nesse local também é possível e encadernação. O local costuma ficar muito cheio em certos horários, deixando o atendimento muitas vezes a desejar. A localização do Cópias Digitais é ao lado do D.A.R., mais conhecido como Pilotis.

APG

No APG é possível imprimir via internet, tirar xerox P/B e Colorida com mesmo preço das outras (Temik e Cópias Digitais). O atendimento é rápido e prático.
O APG encontra-se nas casinhas (Vila). Para chegar lá basta ir ao prédio Kennedy e pegar a descida da bandejão e procurar a casa V.

Copiadora de Engenharia

Nesse local é possível tirar xerox P/B e colorida com os mesmos preços das demais. Alguns professores, a maioria é professor de engenharia, costumam deixar pastas com materiais de engenharia para que os alunos tirem xerox.
